i’m glad i watched the sequel first - this was pretty standard stuff and might have kept me from seeing 2. it was fine i guess, but had all the motivations and character background and stuff that i liked for its absence in 2. it just takes out a lot of the power of the violence and just the intensity of experience.
for what it was my only criticisms are that the final spree dragged on too long and too much maniacal laughter. everybody had some maniacal laughter at some point. the gore was bloody, but not too good, and the foley was pretty bad. it was nice of them to explain that that buick sedan or whatever was a showy luxury car.
