i’m totally gnarly

this was a big disappointment after i really liked the last 3 spike lee movies i saw. very few of the scenes were convincing or effective for me.  particularly important bits like the ‘falling in love’ sequence and the walk through the crack den.  everything was so disjointed it just felt like a series of scenes that didn’t follow from one another.  after flip leaves his firm we hear nothing about his career, and there’s a long stretch where we see nothing of the relationship.  there’s a short bit where they’re play fighting on the car and we get a little glimpse of what could be day-to-day life.  but it’s almost immediately obvious where the scene is going and when it does play out it’s so stupid i could barely watch.

it was also way over-scored which was annoying, and started out with that awful title song.  thankfully the rest of the music was better, but i even got annoyed at how he used ‘livin for the city’.
