i’m totally gnarly

definitely an interesting story and i liked its progression and arc - especially how the old guy that called sozaburo ‘little religion’ became such a big part of it.  but it felt like there were just a couple scenes missing along the way.  maybe it’s just cause asano’s character shows up at the beginning and the end with just a little appearance in between.  when it started i thought he was going to be pretty central, but still he should have just been around in some scenes.  it seemed like they had to work around a schedule conflict.

i still don’t know what the ending with sugano was about even on a re-watch.  it seemed pretty heavy-handed the way they showed him hiding behind his homophobia. but then i don’t know what the implications are for that on the rest of the story. it’s not like it put some huge twist on things since he only had a couple scenes along the way.

kitano’s pretty great to watch.  with his huge persona and facial tics he’s always him but still somehow fit in.

the score had some really good parts, but then also a good deal of the generic late 90’s/early 00’s low bass brooding that turns me off pretty quick.

Something to say?
