i usually don’t like trial films. it seems like a lot of stories in general are written to say ‘i was right you were wrong’ and trial films take that to an extreme with an actual verdict. that was a weakness here as well - being too clear-cut about what they ultimately wanted. there were some decent twists along the way, but they mostly made me question how much they were sanitizing things from the actual events and characters.
they were stuck in that little room most of the time, but did well using a lot of camera moves to keep things interesting, though some felt a little too perfect/geometric at times. the main couple of characters were all very interesting, though the lawyer went a bit too quick from bumbling to the smartest dude in the room. there were also a couple really great quotes like ‘they lack our altruism’ and ‘i’m a pagan too.’ very enjoyable.
