i’m totally gnarly

Archive for April, 2007

saw this last week and keep forgetting to write it up.  first i was amazed he did the whole thing in video, and certainly appreciate that.  i was pretty scared of the 3 hour running time, but it wasn’t too bad.  i guess relative to mulholland drive i liked this one less.  md seemed a […]

there just wasn’t much movie here. so many artsy shots of bicke moping around his apartment to show his alienation, and they were definitely too enamored with the cinematography. there was a long stretch there when he’s waiting for his loan that just draaaaged. i guess it hurt a lot that they […]

i’d been wanting to see this for a long time, then out of nowhere they show it at starz.  camp always wears me out pretty quick, so the seriousness and earnestness of the tone really helps this along.  yeah, there’s silly stuff, but for the most part this could be a straightforward movie.  basically, this […]

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Riff Raff
The Money Pit - Max Beissart, the Maestro
“Little Britain” - Andy

this was solid and well-done.  the crew’s talking to each other got in the way and could have been funnier if it had been quicker and subtler.  things really dragged when there was the whole ‘finding out about reno’ drama and it felt pretty manufactured, not organic.  the transitions from video to movie were pretty […]

this was really wild and pretty exceptional in a lot of ways.  my main complaints: the ‘fight’ was lame; nearly every scene was overlit; the ending was too much; and joe and compton were occasionally too straw-dogish.  joe is obviously established to be way over-the-top but it would have been a lot more impactful to […]
