i’m totally gnarly

there just wasn’t much movie here. so many artsy shots of bicke moping around his apartment to show his alienation, and they were definitely too enamored with the cinematography. there was a long stretch there when he’s waiting for his loan that just draaaaged. i guess it hurt a lot that they had to fill so much time with a one-dimensional character that they ultimately dismiss with insanity. like that scene of him eating dinner with cheadle - there’s really nothing to gain from the (cliched) move of him hugging the kid too long.  we know he’s awkward and weird, and that’s all this reinforces since his relationships with his kids gets all of one scene.  plus his performance is so strained and affected and surrounded by watts and cheadle in two very naturalistic and more interesting roles - i got tired of watching penn.

uses the ms. 45, willard, and may barometer.
