this was definitely entertaining, but i think they’d have to really screw things up to make a neo-noir detective turns crazy supernatural genre blender with a naked lisa bonet not entertaining. it would have been a lot spookier if it weren’t obvious what was going on with de niro’s character and his cornball name. also there were a few scenes where he just ends up somewhere where weird shit happens that felt pretty contrived. i was surprised at how much i liked rourke’s performance, but this might be the first movie i’ve seen him in where his face isn’t so screwed up.
oh and they went way overboard repeating their visual motifs throughout.
