i’m totally gnarly

i’m getting less and less capable of following these kinds of movies.  especially this one since i had zero recollection of the first 2 going in (also i saw this with my parents so it’s a given we missed the first 5 minutes or so.)  still this was fun, especially the ship warfare.  big battle scenes are typically too fast and blurry for me to get much fun out of, but with something big and solid like the boats it gives a good feeling of perspective.  though it was a bit of a letdown how the final battle is set up as 10 vs. hundreds, then we only see a 1 on 1.

the only parts i really disliked were when they were trying to add some emotion to things, like the singing on the gallows, or beckett kissing keira knightley, or the impassioned speech going into the end.  i liked the calypso/davy jones stuff cause it was less emotion and more big mythological feeling.  but all the crappy calypso ‘there be some evil here’ dialogue was grating.
